Photo contest #1: The charm of winter cycling
“The feeling of snow crunching under your tires, the adrenaline unleashed when cycling on fresh powder, the crisp air, the snowflakes glistening, while the tip of your nose turns red and your digits turn numb. Cycling in the winter can bring about unforgettable moments.”
The winners of the first photo contest were announced at the BAFF event on 23 Jan 2014 and the winning images exhibited at the venue.
The jury was made up of:
- Paulo Lobo: a fine art photographer and photojournalist. Editor-in-chief of Wunnen magazine
- Fränz Schneider: founder of cycling organization BIKER.LU and an avid MTB cyclist himself
- Jean Fischbach: a professional bicycle messanger and the founder of Bikecourier in Luxembourg
PHOTO CONTEST WINNERS
1st prize:
“Green Luxembourg” by Daniel Glesener

2nd prize:
“Black winter cycling” by Esa Peltola
Taken on 6 January at 21:14 in Rue du Gruenewald, close to Assencheuer. It was a dark and wet trip. Few minutes later my powerful 4000 lumen lamp stopped working. Probably because of too much water inside.
3rd prize:
“Girl with the bike” by Piotr Olenkowicz
Taken in plateau du Kirchberg early Sunday morning on January 12th
Honourable mentions:
“Où est ma pelle à neige ?” by Gregory Bouvier
Elle a été prise lors d’un hiver particulièrement rigoureux (pas cette année, donc !) à Salzbourg, en Autriche.
